Sarpy County Head Start
Sarpy County Cooperative Head Start offers a comprehensive, family-focused early childhood program for income eligible children ages birth to five years of age and pregnant women to ensure school readiness and family self-sufficiency.
Head Start provides a learning environment that promotes growth in language, literacy, cognition, physical, health, and social and emotional development.
Early Head Start provides early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive child development and family support to infants, toddlers, pregnant women, and their families. Services are designed to nurture healthy attachments between parents and child, between child and caregiver, and to establish a strengths-based relationship that encompasses the full range of a family’s needs from pregnancy through age three.
Sarpy County Cooperative Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child’s first and most important teacher by building relationships with families that support family well-being, positive parentchild relationships, families as learners and lifelong educators, family engagement in transitions, family connections to peers and the community, and families as advocates and leaders.
A variety of service models, depending on the needs of the families in Sarpy County, are offered in Bellevue, Papillion and La Vista. Children living in Gretna, Springfield, and southern Sarpy County also attend these centers. The program offers part day and full day centers for both Head Start and Early Head Start and Home Based services for Early Head Start infants and toddlers. The program continually accepts applications for both Head Start and Early Head Start.
