The Lied Activity Center is proud to offer Red Cross Lifeguard Certification classes and Lifeguard / First Aid Review Courses. Individuals interested in becoming certified lifeguards must be 15 years or older and attend all three class days(for the full certification). You can easily register online by Clicking Here..OR you can download the Lied Activity Center App and sign up there!

Description:
Cost is $225. This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in both shallow water (less than 7 feet) and deep water (7 feet or more) and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. This class is taught in a blended learning format. Blended Learning includes an online, self-paced course accessible via tablet or web-browser and three in-person instructor-led sessions. The assigned online portion must be completed prior to the first instructor-led session. Participants who successfully complete this course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding (including deep water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid valid for 2 years.
Requirements
Must attend all sessions fully for all 3 days.
Age: Students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
Successfully complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations:
Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
-Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface, then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.)
-Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
-Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.Prerequisite 2: Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
-Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)
-Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 12 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
-Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
-Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Lifeguard Class Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation 1 week or more of the class starting- Full refund will be issued
Cancellation LESS than 1 week in advance- $100 refund ($125 course fee will be kept by the Lied Center)
No Show/ No Call- Lifeguard Class - $50 refund ($175 course fee will be kept by the Lied Center)
Inability to pass the pre-requisite requirements for the Lifeguard Class- $100 refund ($125 course fee will be kept by the Lied Center)

-Past certification must be current or not more than 30 Days expired by the last day of the course.
