• In October of 2019, Bellevue Public Schools received a $2.79 million-dollar School Climate Transformation Grant from the Department of Education. This grant has provided financial support for BPS to focus on improving school climate across all schools.

    Through work associated with the School Climate Transformation Grant, BPS hopes to address three major objectives:

    • Implement district wide PBIS tiered curricular supports for social and behavioral skills with students to improve behavior and improve school climate.
    • Provide professional development for educators to enhance pedagogy in order to effectively teach social skills and manage problem behavior.
    • Provide comprehensive supports for students and families which promote school and family success.

     

    Activities that have occurred as part of the SCTG to date include the following:

    • Professional development opportunities for all certified teachers and paraprofessionals in the implementation of the Boys Town Education Model: Well Managed Schools and Safe and Healthy Secondary Schools
    • Training of BPS Consultants to provide classroom walk through to measure implementation fidelity of the Boys Town Education Model in all school buildings
    • Implementation of the Mendez Foundation Too Good for Drugs curriculum in grades 5, 7, and 9
    • Boys Town Common Sense Parenting classes offered to families in the district
    • Resources for students, parents and staff provided by a Drug and Alcohol Counselor
    • Annual measures of perceived school climate by students and staff utilizing the PBIS School Climate Survey
    • Development of district-level administrative support for MTSS
    • Behavioral support for students receiving special education services through a coaching model
    • MTSS-Behavior Leaders at each of the 20 schools
    • Annual measures of Hope and Engagement through the use of Gallup’s Hope Survey to all secondary students
    • Professional development opportunities for all school MTSS B teams in relation to School-wide Tier One and Classroom Expectations.
