English Learners (EL)

Bellevue Public Schools serves students who speak a language other than English at home. The English Learners (EL) program provides students with support at their home school in developing English language proficiency and student academic achievement.

The parent/guardian completes the BPS registration process for enrolling K-12 students. If a parent/guardian answers a language other than English from a series of language questions, the student is referred for English proficiency screening. Bellevue Public Schools currently uses the computer-based ELPA21 Screener to determine English language proficiency levels.
