BPS Return to School Plan 2020-2021

Updated: October 22, 2020

Bellevue Public Schools (BPS) has participated in numerous meetings/briefings with state and local health officials, metro-area school districts, statewide leaders, elected officials, and other officials to inform the district’s plan to return to school as directed by the Governor and the Nebraska Department of Education. Through these meetings, we have formulated the BPS Return to School Plan for the 2020-21 school year.

This plan will use the Sarpy/Cass Health Department COVID-19 Risk Dial to inform the district’s return to school approach for 2020-21. The Sarpy/Cass Health Department COVID-19 Risk Dial reflects the current spread of the virus in Sarpy/Cass County and the resources available to address the health needs of our community members.

Important Highlights:

  • This plan will continue to be modified as we work closely with state/local health officials, the district will provide updates to families and staff as new information becomes available.
  • At this time BPS intends to begin school August 13th, in Yellow Status - meaning students are provided either traditional school or an at-home learning program. The traditional district calendar will be followed with social-distancing guidelines and safety measures in place, and face coverings required for students and staff.

o   Shields may be utilized on a case-by-case basis as determined by the building principal for those with conditions that make mask wearing difficult. Health officials recommend masks as the most effective way to minimize risk of spreading and contracting the virus.

o   All face coverings must follow dress code expectations and must not contain images or phrases that do not conform to the student code of conduct.

o   All students and staff will be provided with masks but may also elect to use their own.

  • Bellevue Public Schools WILL be providing students and families an in-home learning option through the BPS At-Home Learning Program. Families who choose to place their child(ren) into the BPS At-Home Learning Program will be required to remain in the program for at least one semester to ensure continuity of learning. Students who participate in the BPS At-Home Learning Program will not be eligible to participate in co/extra curricular activities (Athletics, Band, Clubs, etc.). If you are planning on placing your child in the BPS At-Home Learning Program, please complete the form by July 24th extended to Monday, July 27th at 5:00 p.m. The link to the request form is located in the Return to School Plan document above.
  • Specific building plans are in progress for each school and will be shared once completed. The district will continue to develop plans for other scenarios related to school and will be ready to be implemented if needed.
