Student Athletic Physicals Update

Students in grades 7-12 that will be participating in athletics are required to have an athletic physical. Athletic physicals count as regular physicals; however, regular physicals will not qualify as athletic physicals. All athletes must have an athletic physical card on file before they can check out equipment and participate.

The requirement for students entering the 7th grade to have a physical exam is Nebraska state education law and we do not have the ability to waive that requirement. However, the physicals that the current 7th graders have for the 2019-2020 school year can be used for NSAA purposes for the 2020-2021 school year.

After discussions with legal counsel and insurance providers, due to our catastrophic insurance requirements, all current 8th grade students that are going to enter the 9th grade in 2020, will STILL be required to get a PPE (pre-participation exam) for the 2020-2021 school year. All other high school students entering grades 10, 11 and 12 grades that have the PPE paperwork for 2019-2020 school year can use that physical for the 2020-2021 school year.

Physicals must be completed AFTER MAY 1 of the upcoming year to ensure that the physical lasts the entire school year and through all sports seasons.

Athletic physicals are available at many local clinics. Students can download the athletic physical form on the BPS website (click here) or pick one up from their school prior to their doctor's appointment. A parent must be present during the physical to sign the appropriate form.
