Clarification to Administrative Regulation 511R

October 15, 2015

The regulation regarding transgender students is in response to guidance by the US Department of Education and several court cases across the country. Transgender is a protected group by the Office of Civil Rights. The regulation is used as a guide to help us support a transgender student while understanding the needs of all students in the school.

Each student that identifies as transgender meets with staff to develop a specific plan. There are no accommodations provided until the plan is in place, preventing any student from making the decision on a day-to-day basis. Currently, BPS does not have any students with an accommodation to use restroom or locker rooms inconsistent with the student's biological sex.
