Girls Tennis

The Thunderbird Girl's Tennis team has reached new levels each and every year through hard work and dedication to the sport.  On top of being very competitive on the tennis court, our girls exceed expectations each and every year academically.  The Thunderbird Girl's Tennis team reaches out to all athletes who have a willingness to play the game.  Whether you've played tennis before or not, the Thunderbird Girl's Tennis team is very welcoming to new additions.  Having many multi-sport athletes on the current roster, the team is looking to expand and grow the tennis experience for each player involved.  Our girls pride themselves on working harder, playing faster, and wanting it more than our opponents.
Those commitments have allowed us to have success on and off the tennis court.  The Thunderbird Girl's Tennis team participates in Class A matches, tournaments, and state championships each year.  Playing the highest level of competition brings out the best in our players, and that has been reflected through our success in these events.  With multiple state champions, high Metro Conference finishes, and many dual and tournament wins, our girls are looking to make waves in the Nebraska tennis landscape each and every season.
While being a successful program on the court is important to us, we also want to develop our players into model citizens.  Through high academic standards and work ethic expectations, our girls leave Bellevue West as better tennis players and people.  It's my firm belief that the Thunderbird Girl's Tennis team is the greatest group of young women in the building.  They are accepting of all, and they are willing to help all of those in need.  This creates an easy transition for our new players each and every year.  This is something that the girl's pride themselves on, and they have done a tremendous job passing this onto the next grade level year in and year out.
Since girl's tennis is a Spring sport in the state of Nebraska, we will begin tryouts towards late February.  Because the weather can cause issues at this time, the tryouts may be held outside or at the Bellevue Lied Center.  There are typically five days of tryouts, and upon completion, the team will be selected.  We encourage anyone to try out.  We are looking to expand tennis skills to anyone interested, and we highly value youth so that we can build our lower level teams.  Our season runs from late February through May, and we have optional lifting throughout the school year.  During the summers, the girls are welcome to participate in Tuesday/Thursday night tennis matches on the Bellevue West courts.  These are hosted by the Bellevue West tennis coaches, and they provide the players with a great opportunity to get some live action in.  Any coach can help set up private lessons, group lessons, or matches throughout the year.
The Head Coach for the Bellevue West Girls Tennis Team is Tommy Harris.  Coach Harris is an elementary teacher in the district who will be entering his first year as the Head Coach after 2 years as an assistant.  Coach Harris was a four-year player for the Thunderbirds during his time at Bellevue West.  You may contact coach Harris through email at: Thomas Harris - thomas.harris@bpsne.net).
