Dr. Jenny Powell is excited to be starting her seventh year as Principal of Mission Middle School. She’s looking forward to a fantastic year and can’t wait to work with the wonderful students, families and staff at Mission.

Question: What should students know about you?
Dr. Powell: Students should know that they can trust me.  They should know that I sincerely believe it is my job to make sure that they have a wonderful experience at the middle school. I will endeavor to help students to see that I am available to them if they have questions, problems, or concerns.  I also believe it is my job to make sure that they feel safe and comfortable at Mission.

Question: What should parents know about you?
Dr. Powell: I hope that I can convey to parents that I am here to help them.  I truly believe that the best experience for students is to see that we are all working together to make sure that they are safe, successful, and that they enjoy middle school.  I hope that parents feel that they contact me about any question or concern.

Question: Did you always want to be a principal?
Dr. Powell: I really did not want to become a principal until I started teaching.  I worked for a female principal who was absolutely wonderful.  I thought, “I want to be like her someday.”

Question: What do you like best about Mission?
Dr. Powell: I really like everything about Mission.  The students here are fantastic.  They are kind, polite, and want to be successful.  I have also been impressed by the level of expertise of our staff.  They sincerely want to help students in every possible way.  I also think the building itself is beautiful.  The custodial staff works really hard to ensure that the building always looks ready for Open House!

Question:
What is your philosophy in dealing with children and families?
Dr. Powell: My philosophy about working with children and families is that we are all working together to meet the individual needs of the students.  It is our goal to make sure that every student finds success.

Question: What is your favorite dessert?
Dr. Powell: Any dessert is my favorite!!

Dr. Powell has been in education for 25 years.  She was a special education teacher, a special education coordinator, a dean, and a principal before coming to Mission.  She is married to a “nearly perfect” man and they have two beautiful children.  She loves Husker football (any football game!), traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  She would like to be a football referee when she grows up.
