Leonard Lawrence Sixth Grade Students Donate to Open Door Mission through Genius Hour Projects

Leonard Lawrence sixth graders (Cailiosa McMichael, Paola Ruiz, Elise Curtis, Nathan Denton, Maris Clark, and Carli Harris) from Emily Salie's class did a fundraiser for their our Genius Hour/Passion Project, selling candy canes and raising $400 for the Open Door Mission. On January 30th the students presented their donation to Valerie Ridpath, Heartland Hands/Heartland Circle Coordinator for Open Door Mission. This donation will help care for over 180 of the Hungry and Homeless they serve at Open Door Mission.

What is Genius Hour?
Genius hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom.  It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school.
