West After School Theatre Club (W.A.S.T.)

WAST -- West After School Theatre Club &  it's honor affiliate Thespian Troupe #4238

The sole purpose of these groups is to provide acting/tecnical theatre learning and performance opportunities outside the regular theatre curriculum.

The groups produce /perform:

1) a September production

2) a short one-act play for the Fall One Act Play Festival in November

3) Five 10 minute plays for the West/East 10-Minute Play Festival in April

4) Improv Nites (much like Who's Line is it Anyway?)

* WAST and Thespians provide technical and front of house support for the Fall One-Act Play Festival and the All School Musical

*Members can compete in the Indivual Events, Improv Challenge and Technical Theatre Challenge at State Thespian Festival in January.

* The group participates in the International Thespian Society's TRICK OR TREAT SO TOTS CAN EAT program by collecting food for the local food bank on Halloween.

The groups also try to attend high school, college, community theatre or professional productions together.

Expectations:

The club meets approximately twice a month on Monday from 3:30-4:30 in Room 414 or the auditorium. The more meetings a member can attend the better, however, you do not have to attend all meetings.

The meetings deal with group business (fund raising, publicity, production concerns) and learning skills, for example, tours of the theatre space, how to audition, working on scenes for competition, backstage skills, etc.  The rehearsals and work on the productions is done outside of club meetings.  If you are cast in a show or on a crew you are expected to attend all rehearsals for which you are called.

 Distinctions:

Thespians have qualified numerous performers to compete at International Thespian Festival in Individual Events. Our Technical Theatre team has finished in the top three of the Tech Challenge at the state level consistently. In addition, student directed plays have been chosed to perform at State Thespian Festival.

A WAST member can gain entrance into the honorary affiliate, The International Thespian society but earning 10 points. These points are earned doing backstage, front of the house, performance, directing, designing and working on club events and each point is the equivalent of 10 hours of work. Thespians are students who have shown excellance and dedication to their high school theatre program. AThespian can attend and compete at state and international competitions and apply for college scholarhips and programs.
