German Club

The Bellevue West German Club seeks to better acquaint its members with the German people-their countries, language, and culture.  The Bellevue West German Club aims to use the German language as much as possible and to promote German related activities.  Students of Bellevue West Senior High School who demonstrate their interest in the goals of the club may participate in the club.

The Bellevue West German Club meets at least once a month (typically weekly on Thursdays from 4:00 - 4:45 in Room 223).  

The Club Motto is: "Verstehen und verstanden werden, Machen unser Glück auf Erden" (To understand and to be understood assure happiness on earth).  

Activities:

*Eat Nutella/Brezeln/Lebkuchen/German candy

*Practice speaking German

*Spaghetti Eis Parties

*Celebrate German traditions: Oktoberfest/Martinstag/Nikolaustag/Weihnachten/Silvester/Karneval/Fasching

*Trip to Oktoberfest Celebration at the German-American Society of Omaha

*Attending concerts (Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, etc.) at the Holland Performing Arts Center

*German Week (including German Unity Day & German-American Day)

*Dinner und Deutsch

*Nikolaustag singing & trip to Chocolaterie Stamm

*Nebraska State German Convention

*Potential trip to Waldsee (a German language immersion camp in Bemidji, Minnesota) 

*Potential trip to Germany (at least 6 students must demonstrate commitment to make a trip happen)

Parents are encouraged to sign up to be Bellevue West German Club Parent Sponsors, with the expectation of volunteering to help chaperone Bellevue West German Club activities.

Achievements:

2014

Bellevue West German Club students were extremely successful at the Nebraska State German Convention held Saturday April 5th, 2014 at Westside High School!  West won the skit competition with the skit "Wo ist Walter?" and Video Skit Level 2 with the skit "Im Kopf eines Teenagers".  Starring in West’s Skit were Logan Bricko, Katie Carlson, Rachel Colwell, Luciano Hallett, KC Harnden, Tanner Horn, Jillian Hussmann, Brandon Lacy, Jacob Mikkelson, Jacob Pilakowski, Kasey Richards, Kristen Rife, Mike Sullivan, and Tess Weddle.  Participating students in the Video Skit Level 2 were:  Aaron Jorgensen, Abby Newcomer, Abby Hamilton, Alex Harrison, Asheton McAllister, Braeden Ede, Brandon Witt, Brandon Lacy, Brian Lacy, Chris Newcomer, Eli Kolesik, Eric Smits, Joseph Bricko, Junior Johnson, Katie Quaas, Kelly Callahan, Klayton DeHart, Kody Rohl, Kody Radil, Kyle Ziegler, Louise Gorzkiewicz, Luciano Hallett, Mani Williamson, Mark Chronister, Nathan Badger, Nick Schwindt, Peyton Cutler, Taryn Nash, Tess Weddle, Troy Thomas, Wesley Thompson, and Zach Glover.  Participating students in the Promote German Video were: J.D. Cottrell, Vince Hahn, Kirsten Hall, Maddie Langenfeld, Jacob Pilakowski, Kasey Richards, Colton Schumacher, Kjersten Schuttler, Robert Shindel III, Kenny Steadman, Mike Sullivan, and Trysten Terbovich-Lacz.  The video was filmed and edited by Rachel Colwell. Individual 2014 West State German Convention winners were: 

Luciano Hallett -2nd place for Spelling Level 2 and 1st place for Directed Dialogue

Brandon Lacy-3rd place for Spelling Level 2, 1st place for Cake Competition, and 2nd place for Promote German PowerPoint 

Jacob Mikkelson-1st place for Spelling Level 3 and was our star performer in the skit

Mike Sullivan-3rd place for Spelling Level 4

Katie Carlson-2nd place for Directed Dialogue Level 3

Casey Jones-3rd place for Directed Dialogue Level 3

2013

Bellevue West German Club students were extremely successful at (and hosted!) the Nebraska State German Convention held Saturday April 27th, 2013 here at Bellevue West High School!  West won the skit competition with the skit  “Ich liebe Fernsehen”.  Starring in West's Skit were: Katie Carlson, Rachel Colwell, J.D.Cottrell, Emily Fenoglio, KC Harnden, Kirsten Hall, Lizzy Hines, Tanner Horn, Ashton Johnson, Kimmy Johnson, Casey Jones, Sam Lucier, Jacob Mikkelson, Dustin Milde, Abby Muraski, Andrew Nelson, Ally Rance, Kasey Richards, Kristen Rife, Andrew Russell, Robert Shindel III, Eric Smits, Kaylee Stankus, Kenny Steadman, Nik Stangler and Mike Sullivan.  Bellevue West German Club won 3rd place at the 2013 State German Convention for Music Video (Rachel Colwell and Kasey Richards).  Bellevue West German Club won 1st place at the State German Convention for T-Shirt design (Gold soccer jersey designed by Dustin Milde, Katie Carlson, and Casey Jones).  Individual 2013 West State German Convention winners were:  

Kirsten Hall-1st place for Advanced PowerPoint

Jacob Mikkelson-2nd place for Spelling Level 2

Casey Jones—3rd place for Spelling Level 2, 2nd place for Directed Dialogue Level 2

Katie Carlson—3rd place for Directed Dialogue Level 2

In 2013, Bellevue West German Club student Dustin Milde was selected as the Bellevue West High School World Language Optimist Student.  

2012 

Bellevue West German Club students were extremely successful at the Nebraska State German Convention held Saturday April 28th, 2012 at Westside Middle School!  West took 2nd place in the skit competition with the skit "Die Schokoladen Vagabunden".  Starring in West's Skit were: Jordan Jenison, Nicole Janousek, Dustin Milde, Courtney Wissig, Sarah Martin, Kaitlyn Miles, Jason Wisenbaker, Kirsten Hall, Kaylee Stankus, Trysten Terbovich, Rachel Colwell, Emily Fenoglio, Sam Lucier, Kasey Richards, Andrew Russell, and Lizzy Hines.  

Bellevue West students also won 1st place for the Club T-Shirt contest (black shirt with gold & red sleeve printing designed by Torre Anderson and Kirsten Hall).  Individual 2012 West State German Convention winners were:

Jordan Jenison-1st Place for Advanced  Spelling

Jason Wisenbaker-1st Place for Directed Dialogue Level 2

Kirsten Hall-1st Place for Beginning PowerPoint, 2nd Place for Spelling II

Mike Sullivan-2nd Place for Advanced PowerPoint

In 2012, Bellevue West German Club student Nicole Janousek was selected as the Bellevue West High School German World Language Outstanding Student.

2011

Bellevue West German Club students were extremely successful at the Nebraska State German Convention held Saturday March 26th, 2011 at Platteview High School! West took 1st place in the skit competition with the skit "Milka Märchen".  Starring in West's Skit were: Jordan Jenison, Nicole Janousek, Dustin Milde, Austin Seal, Courtney Wissig, Andrew Russell, Lizzy Hines, and Tanner Horn.  Bellevue West German Club also took 1st place for the advanced PowerPoint created by Jordan Jenison, Nicole Janousek, Jack McDonald, Nicole Schellerer, and Melanie Baumhofer.  Individual 2011 West State German Convention winners were:  

Stephanie Anciso-1st Place for Music Video

Garrin Rard-3rd Place for Beginning PowerPoint

In 2011, Bellevue West German Club student Jordan Jenison was selected as the Bellevue West High School German World Language Outstanding Student.  

2010

Bellevue West German Club students were successful at the Nebraska State German Convention held Saturday March 20th, 2010 at Millard North High School!  West took 1st place in the skit competition with the skit "Die Polizistinnen".  Starring in West's Skit were: Jordan Jenison, Nicole Janousek, Dustin Milde, Alison Prendergast, and Nicole Strawhacker.  Bellevue West students also won 3rd place for the Club T-Shirt contest (white shirt with black-red-gold T-bird logo designed by club sponsor Frau Messerschmitt).  

In 2010, Bellevue West German Club student Jessica Fuller was selected as the Bellevue West High School German World Language Outstanding Student.  

Community Involvement:

*Putting on a German Carnival for kids

*Creating Thanksgiving Basket for Key Club's Thanksgiving Basket Drive

*Celebrating St. Nikolaus Day by singing to veterans at the Nebraska Veteran's Home 

*Celebrating St. Nikolaus Day by doing an activity/singing at the Children's Hospital
